I’m Byron Reese – I’ve written half a dozen science books for general audiences that have been translated into ten languages. Because of this, over the last ten years, I’ve visited 300 cities around the world, giving speeches about my books.
I’m obsessed with finding the best travel items. I’d like to share with you some of the ones that I personally use. Although these are affiliate links that pay commissions, every one of these products is one I’ve picked out for myself and use on a regular basis. I hope you enjoy them!
There’s no more personal item than one’s carry on bag, and I’m going to make a controversial recommendation. I use an all aluminum one made by Halliburton, which has been around for almost a century. It’s made of solid aluminum and weighs nearly 12 pounds. So it’s enormously heavy. That’s equivalent to a gallon and a half of water. But no matter what happens to it, it protects the contents inside. So I use up valuable weight with this aluminum case. But I’ve had the same one for 16 years and it’s still as good as new.
Airlines are more and more sticklers for the weight of your luggage. And instead of hauling things to the bathroom, this is an inexpensive hand scale that allows you to weigh your luggage if you think you’re getting close. It’s compact and it’s there when you need it.
